Eleftheria Deko, founder of the Eleftheria Deko & Associates Lighting Design studio, is a lighting designer and Assistant Professor at the Theater Department of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, teaching Stage Lighting since 2005.

As lighting designer, she has designed the lighting for more than 450 theatrical plays, opera, music, multi media shows, dance performances, art installations and exhibitions as well as for numerous architectural lighting schemes. She has received excellent reviews and awards for her work in Greece and worldwide.

In 2009, Eleftheria Deko received the award of the Woman Artist of the Year 2009 for her contribution to theater and Art in general.

She has given lectures and master classes on lighting for both Architectural and Stage lighting and has been a pioneer in Stage Lighting since 1990 when she moved from New York to her hometown Athens.

A significant moment in her career has been the participation in the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, as a lighting designer and lighting director.

For the Opening Ceremony she has been awarded an EMMY for “Outstanding Lighting Direction” from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the 2004-2005 primetime Emmy awards.     

She is a member of USIT, ILA, PLDC and the EMMYs academy.
